Courtenay Kusitor Bio

Courtenay Kusitor is a London-based abstract artist whose work explores consciousness, presence and living in the present moment. In 2023 she was featured on Saatchi Art’s “Undiscovered Artists to Know” list, and her work has received words of encouragement from Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic Jerry Saltz. A British Ghanaian abstract artist who draws upon her interest in consciousness to inform her impressionist and expressionist paintings, she underwent a change in her own awareness and consciousness having suffered a trauma to her head and spine in 2013. It led down a path which changed her life, and her art. She has incorporated this new sense of awareness into her process, which is ever present in each piece. Her intention is to ignite a sense of inward and outward awareness , one that the viewer could bring into their life beyond the initial engagement of the art itself.

Working predominantly in inks, she uses an innovative mark-making style, casted on sustainable, handmade paper. It is a style she developed over a 20 year period, in part an evolution of a childhood love of calligraphy.
