Laurence de Valmy is a French artist, born in Zaire, Africa in 1974, who now lives and works in New York area.
In the spring 2017, she was awarded an Ar2st Residency by the Eileen Kaminsky Foundation at Mana Contemporary, NJ for her project “the POST series”, based on the life and work of major artists. Each artwork, created with acrylics, is a clever juxtaposition of an original painting and an imagined social media conversa2on between artists based on accurate stories retold with humor.
The artist combines her interest in art history and her skills in painting to appropriate with talent these iconic artworks and make us consider them with a renewed interest. She has followed art classes both in France and at the University of Michigan in the USA.
Her work has been shown in various group shows and she had two solo shows in 2016 in New Jersey and New York City. Her work can be found in private collections in Europe, the USA and Asia.
Outside of the studio, she likes to connect with other artists and writes on her blog The Curious Frenchy to share interviews of passionate people that she meets.
